On the 5th of June, the annual awards ceremony at the National Maritime College of Ireland were held and includes the Irish Institute of Master Mariners sponsored Don Curtis Award. The 2024 recipient of the Don Curtis Award is Deck Cadet Elise Davis. The Don Curtis Award is given annually to the Deck Cadet recognised as being the best performer overall, demonstrating excellent ability during their first year. It could be considered to be the person you would most want as a shipmate to sail with. The recipient is decided by the lecturing staff of the Nautical Studies Department at the NMCI.
