Institute membership is open to any person resident in Ireland who is qualified as, or in training to become a bridge watchkeeping officer under the IMO STCW (International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) regulations. If you meet this criterion, joining the Institute is very simple:

In 2020, the Irish Institute of Master Mariners membership consists of over 150 Irish and Irish based professional seafarers spanning all ranks from cadet trainees through to experienced Master Mariners. Our members work in a diverse array of seagoing and shore roles all over the World from seagoing positions on ships of every conceivable size, form and funtion to shore jobs in ports, shipping companies, brokerage, insurance, safety, law, regulation, research and beyond.
Our membership is made up of men and women who notwithstanding the diverse array of jobs they have, all share three things in common; they are high-calibre maritime professionals, they are a close-knit professional community enabled by their IIMM membership and they would all like you to join them as a new member so that you can also benefit from the IIMM network and through your membership further strengthen it.
