Our Ref:  DTTAS-MOSN-01349-2021

Dear Mr Gray,

Many thanks for your letters dated 2nd February and 30th March which you sent to Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan TD and Minister of State for Transport Hildegarde Naughton TD, respectively.

In this regard, I have been asked by Minister of State for Transport Hildegarde Naughton TD to reply to you on her behalf.

The Minister is acutely aware of the vital role played by masters, crew and marine pilots in our maritime supply chain. The Department of Transport has been working very closely with industry and ports to mitigate the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic. In this context, officials from this Department have been in constant contact with the Department of Health and have made a strong case for early vaccination especially for the stevedore and marine pilot cohort.

As you know we continue to work to ensure maritime masters and crew who do essential work are exempted from the restrictions placed on passengers arriving into Ireland from abroad and we continue to assist and advise our mariners in this regard. If you have specific queries, please feel free to address them to our dedicated mailbox maritimecovid@transport.gov.ie.

The co-operation and engagement of the maritime industry with the Department and with Government in general, has been unprecedented as we try to ensure supply of goods and medicines, and indeed vaccines, continue to flow.

Thank you for the part you have played in this.

I hope this information is of assistance.

Yours sincerely,

Chris Smith

Private Secretary to Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton TD
