On Saturday the 31st of January members of the IIMM gathered in the Long Valley bar in Cork City to socialise and catch up. The Long Valley has history of catering to Irish sailors and was the ideal location for a get together. Members old and new enjoyed sharing company over food and refreshments.
We gathered initially in the snug downstairs, but as more and more members turned up the snug became too snug! The Long Valley opened the upstairs bar to us to provide us with a bit more space and a dedicated bar. The event was well enjoyed by all, and we hope to carry the momentum into 2026.
A vote was held in the IIMM Members WhatsApp to decided which publication would be donated to the NMCI library this year. Last year a copy of Ship Handling, The Beautiful Game was donated as a reference publication to the library and this year’s contenders were the International Chamber of Shipping’s Deck Procedures Guide and Chief Mate/Master Unlimited Orals Notes (Macneil’s Seamanship Examiner). Although the Deck Procedures Guide scored a number of votes the Chief Mate/Master Unlimited Orals Notes was a clear winner. This book will be donated to the NMCI Library later in the year.
Many thanks to all who were able to attend the social event. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
