On 16 September 2025, Captain Tom Connery graciously invited members of the Irish Institute of Master Mariners (IIMM) to visit the Queen Mary 2 during her call to Cobh. Captain Connery welcomed our group on the quayside before personally escorting us on board. We were received in an informal setting with fresh pastries, excellent coffee, and juices—an enjoyable start aboard this most elegant liner, designed in the spirit of the great transatlantic ships of the past. Following the welcome, Captain Connery led us on a comprehensive tour of the vessel, including her impressive dining rooms, expansive open decks, and both passenger and crew areas. During the visit, an IIMM tie and pin were presented to Captain Connery and to his First Officer, Gavin Kerr, whose efforts helped make the occasion possible for us and for many students of the National Maritime College of Ireland.

It was particularly appreciated that two Irish officers went out of their way to extend such warm hospitality. This wonderful visit concluded with Captain Connery presenting commemorative plaques to those in attendance—a memorable gesture marking a most enjoyable day aboard Queen Mary 2.
