Some interesting changes for our IIMM members that hold a Nautical Institute DP certificate.
The Nautical Institute have recently announced changes to the procedure for renewing your Nautical Institute DP Operator certificates.
For more information, go to https://www.nialexisplatform.org/
IMCA have issued a very good FAQ document that answers some questions regarding the changes. (IMCA FAQ document)
Key points:
To revalidate your Limited/Unlimited DP Certificate, you will need to:
complete the NI DP Refresher Course (including the NI Revalidation online examination)
OR
be enrolled in an NI-approved Continuing Professional Development programme.
To make sure all applicants have enough time to meet the requirements, the CPD process will be introduced gradually over the next five years.
Further information here Changes to revalidation requirements – CPD – NI Alexis Platform (kayako.com)
1 year of CPD on the IMCA Ed APP is 2 modules per year.
Once you complete module 1 this automatically registers on the NI Alexis platform. You can not start module 2 until 6 months after completing module 2.
Regarding the NI online exam,
Please note that you should take the NI Revalidation exam once just before you apply for the renewal of your DP certificate.
Below is an extract from an email received from the Nautical Institute outlining the changes.
To make sure that DP operators keep pace with the developing standards in a fast-changing industry, DPOs and DPVM certificate holders will now be asked to demonstrate either NI-approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or complete the DP Refresher and Competency Assessment Course before renewing their certificates. This is in addition to the sea time requirements (see below if you do not have enough seatime). To revalidate Limited/Unlimited or Unclassed DP Certificates, DPOs with qualifying seatime will need to complete the NI DP Refresher Course OR be enrolled in a NI approved Continuing Professional Development programme. ALL DPOs will need to complete the NI’s online Revalidation exam, whichever of these options they choose. To ensure all applicants have enough time to meet the requirements, the NI is introducing the changes gradually over the next five years. |
If you have 150 days of DP sea time/DP activities and are due to revalidate your certificate in the following years, please see the requirements below: • 2024 – NI DP Refresher course (including the NI revalidation exam) OR, NI Revalidation online exam AND One year of a NI-approved CPD programme. • 2025 – NI DP Refresher course (including the NI revalidation exam) OR, NI Revalidation online exam AND Two years of a NI-approved CPD programme. • 2026 – NI DP Refresher course (including the NI revalidation exam) OR, NI Revalidation online exam AND Three years of an NI-approved CPD programme. • 2027 – NI DP Refresher course (including the NI revalidation exam) OR, NI Revalidation online exam AND Four years of an NI-approved CPD programme. • 2028 – NI DP Refresher course (including the NI revalidation exam) OR, NI Revalidation online exam AND Five years of an NI-approved CPD programme. If you have between 30 -150 days of sea time – you must complete the NI DP Refresher Course (including the NI Revalidation online examination) OR If you have less than 30 days of sea time – you must complete the NI DP Revalidation Course (including the NI Revalidation online examination) |
Note: All DPOs whose certificates are due to expire from 1st January 2024 until 31st December 2028, and have been unable to complete the new requirements for revalidating their certificate, will be issued with a 12-month indemnity letter once their online application has been submitted/paid. The applicant must complete the new requirements of the CPD and/or courses and resubmit their application within a year of the issue date of the letter to be eligible to apply. The indemnity letter is not to be used by the applicant to complete any of the sea time requirements for their application. |
